Percents and Fractions
Percents to Fractions: Learn
Do the following steps to convert a percent to a fraction:
- Remove the Percent sign
- Make a fraction with the percent as the numerator and 100 as the denominator
- Simplify the fraction if you can
For example: Convert 83% to a fraction.
- Remove the sign: 83
- Make a fraction: 83/100
- 83/100 is already in simplest form
This procedure works because the word percent means "by hundredths" and creating a fraction with 100 as the denominator is equivalent to dividing by 100, which produces hundredths.
