Counting up to 1 million
Counting Down from 1 Million: Learn
A number with 4, 5 or 6 digits is between 1000 and 999,999. The number is named by naming the number that would be formed from the digits to the left of the three rightmost digits and adding the word "thousand. The three rightmost digits would then be names as before. It would be the name of the first digit followed by the word "hundred", and then the name of the final two digits. For example, the number 34507 is named "thirty-four thousand five hundred seven", the name of 900784 is "nine hundred thousand seven hundred eighty-four". If the last two digits are 0 then the name is just the name of the first digit followed by hundred (e.g. 8600 is named "eight thousand six hundred").
A number with 3 digits is between 100 and 999. The name of the number is the name of the first digit followed by the word "hundred", and then the name of the final two digits. For example, the number 507 is named "five hundred seven", the name of 784 is "seven hundred eighty-four". If the last two digits are 0 then the name is just the name of the first digit followed by hundred (e.g. 600 is named "six hundred").
To count down, the hundreds portion of the number stays the same until the last two
digits are 00 and then the hundreds place name is decreased by one and the two last digits
will become 99. For example,
301 = three hundred one
300 = three hundred
299 = two hundred ninety-nine
